  5. !pdf is based on the program xpdf from Derek Noonburg . 
  6. The original xpdf README file is in this archive, as xpdf_docs.README. The
  7. directory xdpf_docs contains the original documents as supplied by Derek.

  9. I have not included the source to !pdf because I am stil developing it.
  10. You can have the orginal source package as distributed by the 
  11. author (Derek Noonburg mailto:derekn@ece.cmu.edu). To obtain the original source

  20. ====

  22. !pdf is a RISC OS port of the pdf reader for X which has been written by
  23. Derek Noonburg. !pdf reads a Adobe(R) Portable Document Format (PDF) file
  24. and displays this in a window.

  26. !pdf has been tested on:
  27. Archimedes 310  4 mb, RiscOs 3.1, FPA
  28. SA RiscPC      20 mb, RiscOs 3.7
  29.  
  30. Resources
  31. ========
  32. To use !pdf you need the following resources:
  33. - Acorn toolbox modules.
  34. - 2 megabyte of ram. You can alter the wimpslot but !pdf may hang because
  35.   of memory shortage by large documents.
  36. - Patience, the rendering of a page will take a long time. Even just a page
  37.   with text takes on a SA 2 - 3 seconds.

  39. Filetype
  40. ========
  41. The official filetype for Adobe(R) pdf files is &ADF.
  42.  
  43. Features
  44. ========
  45. Altough !pdf is based on version 0.7 of xpdf it does not support all the
  46. features of xpdf. The following features are supported by !pdf:
  47. - Zoom
  48. - Save as drawfile (use !Draw for printing your page)
  49. - links
  50. - Printing
  51. - Rotated text
  52.  
  53. The following features are not supported:
  54. - clipping
  55. - encrypting
  56.  
  57. Known bugs
  58. ==========
  59. - Calculating alternate fontsizes is not quite correct
  60. - There is a difference in character mapping between my Archimedes and RiscPC
  61. - !PDF only prints the main area of a page. I a page is larger then the paper
  62.   you will not get it all.
  63.  
  64. Planned features
  65. ================
  66. There are no planned new features. I want to spend time  enhancing the
  67. current features eg. better printing, clipping, etc.

  69. Bug reports
  70. ===========
  71. For bugs regarding !pdf you can email me. If those bugs relate to xpdf I will
  72. forward them to Derek Noonburg. Do not just say this or that does not work
  73. but also what pdf file (location only www or ftp address only please) and a
  74. small description of it (eg what page, appearence, chrash or looks, etc) and
  75. the !Pdf version please.

  79. Please bear in mind that I do not have much time to enhance !pdf (this
  80. version (again) waited 3 months before I finalised it) but I will work on it
